“Duquesne Whistle” by Bob Dylan
Just a little ditty from Dylan’s latest album which he wrote with Robert Hunter. What really interested me was the subdued intro before it breaks out into the full band. Considering this is the first song on the album, it makes quite an interesting start - not sure if it’s a bad mix or if we’re in for a minstrel album. The when Dylan reveals the actual band which makes up the song, it’s a bit of relief and revelry.
It’s almost like the sound of an approaching train…

“I can dress up your wounds
with a blood-clotted rag
I aint afraid to make love
to a bitch or a hag
if you see me comin’
and you’re standing there
wave your handkerchief
in the air
I ain’t dead yet
my bell still rings
I keep my fingers crossed
like them early roman kings”
